In an interview with Fox News, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said that he did not want to talk “beyond the current negotiations” about the possibility of US military action against Iran, but emphasized that government officials are moving military equipment and considering different options.
He added that US President Wyatt Hegsett and Secretary of War are moving military equipment to Iran and “have decisions to make.” Bessant stated that Donald Trump believes he can reach a “good deal” but that this depends on Iran’s behavior.
In another part of the conversation, he emphasized: The assets of high-ranking Iranian officials are under surveillance and, upon request, these resources will be returned to the Iranian people.
Basnet’s statements come at a time when US President Donald Trump has spoken in recent days about continuing negotiations with Tehran and the possibility of taking tough action if diplomacy fails.
After a more than two-hour closed-door meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump wrote on the social network TrutSocial that the meeting was “very good” and emphasized that negotiations with Iran should continue for now to determine whether an agreement is possible.
He warned: “Either we reach an agreement, or we are forced to do something very difficult, like last time.” Trump also announced the dispatch of military fleets to the Middle East and raised the possibility of sending another aircraft carrier. The USS Lincoln is currently in the region, along with several other warships.
The US president has stressed that any potential agreement must be a “good deal” and include broad restrictions on nuclear and missile capabilities.
Meanwhile, indirect talks between Tehran and Washington have resumed in Oman, while verbal tensions and military activity in the region have increased.
The increased military threats, along with the negotiation path, have further inflamed the political atmosphere around Iran. Mark Levin, a conservative American analyst, recently said in a sharp message to Ali Khamenei: “We are coming for you. Your days are numbered.”
