Speaking at Sydney’s Lowy Institute on Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney addressed the escalating conflict across the Middle East – triggered by joint U.S. and Israeli strikes in Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei last week. Though he expressed support for efforts to prevent the threat of the Iranian regime – and in stopping the nation from obtaining a nuclear weapon – Carney condemned the U.S. and Israel for striking before engaging with the UN or their allies. “The old norms of the rules-based international order are being erased,” he said.
