Global NewsOn Monday, police will provide an update on the shooting incident at a Texas bar, where a gunman, wearing clothing featuring an Iranian flag design and declaring himself as “Property of Allah,” killed two people and injured 14 others.
The shooting happened outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden just before 2 a.m. along Sixth Street, a nightlife destination filled with bars and music clubs and only a few kilometres from the University of Texas at Austin. Officers shot and killed the suspect shortly after the deadly rampage, police said. “There were indicators that on the subject and in his vehicle that indicate potential nexus to terrorism,” Alex Doran, a special agent with the San Antonio FBI field office, said. “Again, it’s still too early to make a determination on that.”
The incident marked the 56th U.S. mass shooting this year and the one with the most victims so far, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people, not including the shooter, are injured or killed by gunfire.
