Bo Theutenberg explains: The question of international law has become highly topical in connection with the US and Israeli military attacks on Iran and the rapid escalation that followed. Reactions have been strong internationally, with recurring accusations of violations of international law and demands for condemnation – while others point to self-defense, security and Iran’s role in the region.
It is against this background that Bo Theutenberg, professor emeritus of international law and former international law expert at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reflects on what international law actually is – and why today’s debate is often, according to him, simplified.
– International law is not a new invention. It is not something that was invented with the UN Charter, says Bo Theutenberg.
