Sky News US analyst Michael Ware discusses the reported appointment of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba, as the new Iranian Supreme Leader. “I don’t think that bodes well – why? Because there was opposition to him within the clerical organisation inside Iran, they don’t want to see a succession by blood,” he told Sky News Australia. “They believe … it shouldn’t come down bloodlines; it should be chosen each time independently. “But more importantly … his appointment would be a signal that the Revolutionary Guard Corps is still very much in power and is consolidating that power.”
