Iranian women living in the UK held a Women’s Day celebration on Saturday afternoon, March 7, 2026, at the Borona Gallery at Sovas University in London. As in previous years, the program included a variety of sections, including lectures, documentaries, performances, and music.
Dr. Katayoun Shahandeh, a researcher in art history and professor at Sovas University, was the main organizer of the program, along with a number of artists, human rights activists, and women’s rights activists, including Shiva Mahboubi, Shahla Mohammadi, Fariba Baloch, Simin Fahandezh, Samaneh Savadi, Roshanak Roozbahani, Solmaz Naraghi, Sama Soltani, Nahid Naeimi, and Hossein Hadisi. The program was influenced by the special conditions of war and military attacks in Iran, and the socio-political conditions of the country after the armed suppression of protesting citizens in January 1404, and the collective trauma experienced by Iranians in recent months.
One of the main themes discussed by the speakers of this program was the “political, social, and cultural agency of Iranian women,” who, alongside men, have made an important contribution to advancing protests, uprisings, the Women’s Freedom Movement, and the Lion and Sun National Revolution.
