Video footage has been released, capturing the tanker that was hit by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps drone in the Strait of Hormuz. The tanker was struck by the IRGC on Monday while attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s permission. The Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway, located between Iran and Oman, handles one fifth of the world’s oil shipments, making any military escalation in the region an immediate threat to the global energy security.
The crisis intensified after multiple oil tankers and commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz were struck during attacks linked to the broader Iran–United States conflict. Several ships were damaged by missiles, drones, or explosive projectiles while navigating the strategic corridor. Analysts warn that even temporary disruptions in the Strait can have enormous consequences for the global economy because so much of the world’s oil exports depend on uninterrupted passage through the waterway.
