Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge says the “largely negotiated” deal with Iran may be a placeholder, aimed at easing tensions now while “buying time” for tougher talks on key issues like its nuclear program. “This could be yet another example of us being told by President Trump that a deal is close … but, what seems more likely is they might agree to a deal that says let’s open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News host James Macpherson. “Buy time for 30 to 60 days of tough negotiations around these things where America and Iran just can’t agree, like the nuclear program.”
