Iran and the United States concluded a second round of indirect negotiations in Geneva, mediated by Oman, with progress on the principles of a possible nuclear agreement. Tehran is reportedly willing to pause uranium enrichment and transfer some of its stockpiles to a third country in exchange for sanctions relief. Both delegations described the dialogue as constructive, though without announcing any definitive commitments.
The rapprochement comes amid heightened tensions, with threats of intervention from Washington and Iranian naval maneuvers in the Strait of Hormuz. Key disagreements remain, such as the ballistic missile program and the extent of sanctions relief, meaning the risk of military confrontation has not disappeared.
