Cedomir Nestorovic, Professor of Geopolitics at the Essec Business School says Gulf states may increasingly seek direct deals with Iran as confidence in the U.S. security umbrella weakens, with Qatar, Oman and the UAE likely to move first. He add that the vacuum left by the U.S. could be filled by China in the Gulf, but only if Washington is willing to accept Beijing’s expanding influence in the region.
