FRENCH – Khargi Island, targeted by US airstrikes, is a key Iranian oil site, from which approximately 90% of its crude oil exports originate.
Located in the northern Gulf, about 30 km from the coast and nearly 500 km from the Strait of Hormuz, Kharg had been carefully avoided by Israel and the United States since the beginning of the war.
This changed on Friday when US President Donald Trump announced that airstrikes had “completely destroyed” military targets on Kharg.
