US President Donald Trump is signalling that an end to the war in Iran may be in sight, even as the path out of the conflict appears increasingly difficult to navigate. At the same time, the US Pentagon is deploying more assets and personnel to the Middle East. Among the reinforcements is the 82nd Airborne Division, with at least 3,000 elite troops expected to be sent. Mr Trump has also suggested that US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth “didn’t want it to be settled,” adding further ambiguity to Washington’s position at a critical moment in the conflict.
