Trump to block Strait of Hormuz after Iran talks fail

U.S.-Iran peace talks in Pakistan have ended without an agreement after 21 hours of negotiations, with Vice-President JD Vance saying Iran refused to accept U.S. terms, primarily around a firm commitment not to develop a nuclear weapon. CTV’s Austin Lee reports that President Donald Trump announced the U.S. Navy will begin blocking vessels attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz, which handles around 20 per cent of global energy supplies and once saw roughly 150 vessels transit daily. Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf blamed the U.S. for failing to gain Tehran’s trust, while analysts say the fragile 14-day ceasefire remains in effect and a deal is still possible.
