The Israeli army announced on Sunday that its forces had captured the 900-year-old Beaufort Castle and a strategic ridge in southern Lebanon, giving them complete control over large parts of southern Lebanon and northern Israel. The advance marks the first time Israel has taken the position since May 2000, when it withdrew its forces from southern Lebanon after an 18-year presence.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that troops would retain Beaufort Castle as part of Israel’s security zone in southern Lebanon. #shorts
