Prosecutors say the plot aimed to prevent Russia from using gas revenues to finance its military.
And the FBI has discounted some of the ransom notes that surfaced after the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie as extortion attempts, but said others might be legitimate. Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for five months.
