In the aftermath of the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, attention has turned to who will succeed him. Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council — tasked with a wide remit in Iran’s constitution to preserve the Islamic Revolution, territorial integrity and national sovereignty — has emerged as a frontrunner to lead the Islamic Republic.
