Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was killed in US-Israeli strikes, has been announced by Iranian State Media as the new Supreme Leader. Americas Editor John Lyons explains that 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei is likely to continue his father’s hardline policies and the appointment signals signals the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is very much still in control in Iran.
