Who was Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani and what was his relationship with the US?

Israel says it has killed top Iranian official and security chief Ali Larijani. Larijani was incredibly influential within Iran’s top brass, with the apparent backing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Barbara Slavin from foreign affairs think tank Stimson Center interviewed Larijani and says he was a key figure in diplomatic relations with the United States and was central to Iran’s nuclear negotiations in the early 2000s. Slavin also says his death may complicate US efforts to end the war with Iran.
