Iran on Monday called on the United States to “adopt a reasonable approach” and abandon “excessive demands,” after receiving a response from Washington to its new proposal in the context of peace negotiations between the two countries.
Tehran was engaged in discussions with Washington regarding Iran’s nuclear program when the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, as they did in June 2025 during the 12-day war. A fragile ceasefire has been in effect since April 8 after 40 days of bombing, but negotiations have stalled.
While Iranians and Americans have resumed dialogue through Pakistan, the talks held in Islamabad on April 11 ended in failure. Several indicators suggest that a resumption of war is possible.
An Iranian military official deemed a resumption of the conflict with the United States “likely” on Saturday, while Donald Trump said he was “not satisfied” with a new offer from Iran to revive peace negotiations.
“A resumption of the conflict between Iran and the United States is likely, and events have shown that the United States has not honored any promises or agreements,” said Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy inspector of the Khatam Al-Anbiya Armed Forces Command, as quoted by the Fars news agency.
